David Thawley

Chief Executive Officer

David Thawley
As CEO, David draws on a rich, diverse and dynamic background in automotive technology - he has devoted much of his career to taking automotive technology in bold new directions. David previously managed eBay Motors' Automotive Parts & Accessories vertical, where he grew the business from $1.8B to over $3B in annual sales. David also co-founded TestDrive, a mobile software business that helps car dealerships modernize the car-buying experience by providing a mobile layer on top of existing customer management and dealer management systems - allowing salespeople to collaborate with customers on the dealership lot - and by extracting content and valuable big data from every customer visit and test drive.

Since joining Derive at the end of 2014, David has steered the company through a challenging phase as SCT, Bully Dog, and Efficiency brands come together in a focused effort to create smart, digital approaches to vehicle efficiency, power, and future-focused technology. He excels at developing effective strategies and leading high-performing teams, a background established while serving as a Captain in the United States Air Force, and while working as a business strategy consultant from Bain & Co. David holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, and a BS from the USAF Academy.
